An exciting opportunity has arisen in Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Governance team as a Business Administration Apprentice.  We are looking for an individual who is interested in learning and developing practical and technical skills whilst undertaking an apprenticeship training programme delivered by Warrington and Vale Royal College.

The Governance team provides assistance and services to the Fire Authority and the Service Leadership Team. The team ensures that both Members and officers have the resources, facilities, and space to conduct the business of the Fire Authority and the Service both efficiently and effectively.

If you are looking for a new learning opportunity, this position will support the completion of Business Administration Level 3 through an apprenticeship provider and be mentored by team colleagues in the organisation.  Time will be allocated within the working week to complete the required learning.

As part of the apprenticeship programme the successful candidate will be required to travel to Warrington and Vale Royal College to undertake training comprising of a 12-week block, attending ½ a day a week, commencing in September 2024.  It will be the successful candidate’s responsibility to travel to and from Warrington although travel expenses will be funded by the Service.

The main purpose of this role is to provide administrative support within the Governance team and assist in several departments across Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. The role will require assisting with a range of administrative and support work, to ensure the smooth running of the office. Your main duties will include the production of clear and concise minutes/actions from meetings, organising meetings and events, assisting with Freedom of Information enquiries, booking rooms, diary management and responding to the needs of a very busy office.

Your key skills and responsibilities will include:

  • Good and clear communication - You will be required to demonstrate good, clear verbal and written communication.  You will need to be confident with dealing with people at different levels across the organisation.

  • The ability to work as part of a team - You will show the ability to build positive relationships with team members, whilst being professional and polite. 

  • A good understanding of IT and Microsoft packages - You will have a sound working knowledge of Microsoft packages, such as Word, Outlook and Excel. 

Applicants must have:

  • Maths and English GCSE (Grade C/4 or above) or functional skills level 2 equivalent.

  • Be reliable, flexible, diligent and be a good time keeper

  • Ability to work as part of a team.

The apprenticeship is for 18 months, and we are looking for someone to start August 2024 with some flexibility.
