Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to protecting safety. In order to do this we use closed circuit television (CCTV) in the following situations:
At our premises.
On our fire appliances.
At major incidents.
We recognise that using CCTV means that we may collect personal data about individuals. We will handle CCTV images properly and meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000(RIPA) and the CCTV Codes of Practice.
The CCTV system on our Incident Command Unit can capture images up to two kilometres away in the right conditions. Our staff understand this and always ensure that the camera is focused on the immediate incident requirements.
To protect buildings and assets.
To increase personal safety of visitors and employees.
To deter and detect crime.
To apprehend and prosecute offenders.
To manage and evaluate emergency incidents.
To monitor performance, quality and training.
We use signs at the entrances to our buildings, on fire appliances, and outside the Incident Command unit at major incidents to tell you that CCTV is being used in that area.
Fire officers wearing body cameras at incidents will be identifiable by a tabard which advises you that CCTV is being used.
Recorded images may be viewed by the Police for the prevention and detection of crime. Recordings will also be used by the Service in order to monitor and evaluate performance at incidents and accidents, and to establish facts where required.
